Well, here we are, May 29th, on the brink of summer in the northern hemisphere, and this is the view from my window:
So since it would appear that I’m living in the Arctic, I think I shall abandon my plans to get started on a pretty, breezy navy shirtdress for the time being and get started on an autumn jacket. Another jacket. Another McCall 5525 to be precise. I should be able to sew it in my sleep after the last two. And I’ll use this leopard print peachskin (?) that I picked up in Montreal.
Other than that, I’ll spend the day whining and pitying myself and bemoaning the not-very-summery weather. So, pretty much like any other day here at Chez Selfish :)

Oddly enough, it’s looking a lot like this where I am right now too (Calgary), except the snow is more Slurpee-like. But since I am a thousand miles from my sewing room, I will have to content myself with hiding in the basement raiding my Mom’s collection of sewing patterns from the 60s and 70s!

Wow! Is that snow?! I can’t even wrap my mind around that. It’s rainy today so it’s a cool 70 degrees. But Friday, it was in the low 90s! I can’t even think of cool weather clothes right now.

Heck, it’s been between 75-95 where I am for the last week and I’m already dreaming of wool crepe dresses and snazzy scarves for fall. I made up your coffee date dress, though (I’m wearing it right now!), and wish I could send you a few degrees and levels of humidity in return for some of your arctic chill. While I do love sun dresses, I also love not sweating like crazy having merely stepped outside.
Might I sugest that you steal Selfish-Fiance’s banana pants for warmth? What’s more selfish than un-gifting something?

We’ve just come out the other side of a humid, late August heat wave here in southern Ontario. Crazy May weather!

Wow! Snow. We are having 90 degree F weather here in Texas.
That fabric is awesome. It’s going to make an amazing jacket.

Oh no – snow! That is my official policy.
Ms. Selfish, I think you should work on whatever you want. Another jacket, dress, whatever. Sometime those flakes go away for a week or so at a time and you can get pretty warm then.
I lived in Syracuse New York for a long time a long time ago – at leas it seemed like a long time. It was from 18 inches of snow on April 25th to 40 inches of snow in January. I had to ask myself, what the heck am I doing here?
Headed south for warmer climes, where it is currently 86 and so humid you could swim through the air.

I live in the mountains of SoCal. Esactly one week ago we got 4 inches of snow at my house. Today it’s sunny, breezy. Off the hill tomorrw, it’s predicted to reach 90 degrees. I’m confused and so is my sewing table.
PS. Love the fabric ~ what lining will you use? Oh and I’ve fallen in love with a certain pattern myself and will be making a third version of it when I get the right weight of linen. I’ve never made more than 2 of anything before so I guess this is what happens when planets colide.

So hey, it’s Saturday–do you plan on announcing the winner of the bra pattern any time soon?

It is winter here in the southern hemisphere and we don’t even have it that bad!
Still snowing weather is good sewing weather, so have fun with your leopard project!

I’m in AZ and its blistering, I’m actually kind of jealous of you. Its gonna be a long HOT summer here, not looking forward to it. In fact it gets so hot there is no point in sewing clothes as it is best to walk around naked.

Oh I’m sorry. But just remember that when you are enjoying a nice, wonderful, cool, fall, I’ll still be in sweltering heat and humidity, just like I am today. It. Never. Ends.

I would invite you here but since the international press thinks my little island is under siege that’s perhaps not the best idea. On second thought you could still come and park your selfishness on the west of the island

And here I’ve been crabby (in Southern California) since it’s only been inteh 70’s or so during the day. Thank goodness for Memorial Day weekend it’s finally in the 80’s – beautiful and sunny, with a breeze…
But the snow looks beautiful (and surely it makes for good sewing weather!)

Bleak indeed… I’ve just started another jacket too, but then it’s heading into winter where I am… and, like you, I’m using a pattern I’ve used about a hundred times before (well, at least five anyway).. but when you’re onto a good thing, you should stick to it!

Buckle down with the spring stuff! I’m sure it’ll be beautiful again in the next few days! I found myself in 90 degree heat this week working on a long sleeves button down shirt. It was painful…

I too wish it were cooler where I am, but that is beside the point. Your leopard is very lovely. Can you tell me how thick it is? It looks very drape-y in the picture. Being much less experienced than yourself, I am still trying to figure out what fabrics to use for which patterns. Here’s hoping your weather bends to your will soon!

What possessed you to move there? No amount of money on this planet could persuade me to move there!

Wow! You must live somewhere nearby, it looked much like that all weekend here, except it was rain not snow. Although, what a great excuse to stay in and sew!

That’s obscene.
However, good reason to consume mass quantities of chocolate which is a prerequisite when snow falls.

No, no, no, that is not a bad thing. It is EXTRA sewing time before the summer arrives. We are in full-on summer temps here in Istanbul and I am well behind with my targets (complicated by a string of four, yes FOUR, consecutive wadders). I could with a couple of cool weeks…. It is even getting too hot to go to the mile-long fabric street market (don’t get jealous) on Tuesdays (and Fridays, no don’t get jealous…).
No seriously, you can get a couple more things made up before the sun’s rays emerge again.

I was so terribly sorry to read about your grandmother. Please accept my condolences. I’m sure she would have liked to think of you knitting something lovely in her honor.

Dear Selfish, your grandmother left you with more than the ability to knit. “clever, spirited, and giving person” is part of her legacy to you too. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Elaine I am so sorry to hear of your Ahma’s passing, she seems like she was a wonderful grandmother and it must have been lovely to have her around for so long. Grandmothers teach us so many things that stay with us for our entire lives. My grandmother taught me how to tie knots when I was 3 by making a quilt with me, and a piece of that quilt is always in my sewing area so that I can have her love with me at all times while I’m doing the craft she taught me. I miss her, still, and it’s been 16 years this month.

Sorry about your grandmother. She really lived a long life! My grandpa died last weekend too – and his brother (who he had not spoken to for something like 40 years) died the same morning, in a very bizarre coincidence. I think I got my love of crafting from my grandma, and my grandpa was crafty too – he made dollhouses for all the grandkids, and as I was the first, mine was his first attempt, but he managed to put a stained glass window in it!!! Probably the best toy I ever got, it occupied me for many, many happy hours.
