Ok, for those of you who drooled over the amazing Milly plaid fabric I was able to procure from Gorgeous Fabrics, I’d like to point out that a very limited quantity of another amazing Milly silk has just popped up on that great site. I’ve already laid claim to my precious two yards, so I’m graciously going to give you all permission to snap up the rest. That’s right, I’m sharing. (Yuck.) [Update: And 5 and a half hours later, this fabric is gonzo! Better luck next time, my chickadees!]

For serious now. I’m saying the same thing to myself. Damn me! I’m not sure at what point I went from being someone who balked at paying more than $8 a yard for fabric to someone who’ll randomly toss $27/yard silk charmeuse into a shopping cart like it’s no thang, but it hasn’t been a change for the better for me, budget-wise or stash-wise :)

Well $27 is what, about £20, right? So call it £22 a metre (to account for a metre being more than a yard) and then factor in that it’s silk and gorgeous silk at that and then factor in that people in the US aren’t paying high international shipping rates, and then it doesn’t seem so bad. At least in theory.
I think my most expensive fabric in the stash was £10/m, and I will consider that price again when I’m feeling flush. But given that I was a student for four years, and then was unemployed for one, and then paid for a wedding and have now only just had my fifth full-time paycheck…. proportionately that £10/m is probably actually worse than your $27/yard with international shipping!
(How bizarre, to be exchanging online niceties with the SS….)

I’m sure that if selfish were to make a dress like the one in the second photo, she would not allow the lining to droop below the hemline. Seriously? Wow, I love that stretch silk charmeuse. Except that the words “stretch” and “silk” and “charmeuse” all terrify me.
I will know I’ve arrived in the world when I can buy $27/m fabric without flinching. At the moment I max out at about $10/m.

Oh la la….I saw that feather silk the other day when I was browsing Gorgeous Fabrics. I was tempted, very tempted but I splurged on some silk with a bird motif not that long ago and I had just splurged on some pricey fabric to make a coat….but now I am having the opposite of buyers remorse…what is that called? Buyers regret?
