So funny! I always tell my friends that I’ll be happy to sew for them if they babysit my three small children (aged 1, 3 &4) for the duration of the project. Needless to say, they never ask again!

My REAL friends know better than to ask such things!!!! Thanks for the chuckle!

I’m a new reader, via Grosgrain. I think the jacket is really nice! It’s hardly ever cool enough here for me to put any effort in to a jacket, but this is the kind of pattern I would choose if I did attempt one. It looks lovely!

I think that is a great trench. So you. Hope that you get lots of wear from it

I really like it!! If the print was colorful I think it could look kind of grandma-y but with it in black and white I think its great!!! I would wear it!!!

I just found your blog last night, and with all the hoopla of my daughter’s first communion today and Mother’s Day today, I haven’t had much of a chance to check it out in more depth. But here’s what snagged me:
You mentioned Audrey Hepburn. I adore Audrey!
Your free patterns for petite women. Like you, I am quite tiny.
I am approx 5′ 1″ and weigh about 90 pounds. No curves–unfortunately. (Perhaps that’s why I love Audrey). So I am hopeful that your patterns may work for me.
I am VERY NEW to sewing. I bought a sewing machine on a whim just over a year ago. It sat in my closet for a long time, because I was actually afraid of it! Well, afraid of failure is more like it, right? Recently I made an A-line wrap skirt from Martha Stewart’s new book Encyclopedia of Sewing, and it was a complete success. So I would really love to keep going.
I am hopeful that I can make something from your blog. If I have any questions or get lost, can you help me? I know no one around me that sews, but I am determined to learn. Thank you for sharing your beautiful patterns and work with us all out here! Talk to you soon, Victoria

Oh, by the way, I think your white floral trench is sharp. I can picture it easily with a slim black pencil skirt and a great pair of black heels.

I agree that it looks great in the B&W print but might have been too much in a bright floral. Also love the sugar snow dress!

That b&w floral print works – have you considered adding piping? Choice of buttons would also make you love it.

Add black piping!! It will make a crisp edge and line for the eye and give a nice finished look. Large, plain black buttons would be a good choice to break up the floral. I am a 50 yr old 5’0″ 98 lbs, and a professional seamstress. I purchased a Ben Sherman floral trench for $15.00 at a thrift store recently…I could not pass up the price or make it for so little $$. I thought it would make me look like a little girl, but I love it. I think you will grow to love the floral with a simple dress/skirt underneath. Let the trench be the only pattern going on and it will be beautiful.

its all about how you synch the waist… a wide sash in a bright color will change any “granny” look into something modern…
i think its pretty cool regardless, just imagine it with great shoes… i did and i love it!

I agree with Selina. I think if you used a bright red it would be really chic.

Hmm… I looked at it again and I do see what you mean. It might have a slight granny-ish element. But I seriously doubt anything would look granny-ish on you :)

I completley love it. I have been wanting to do a big floral print trench for a while. I don’t see “grandma made it” at all. I agree on the piping. Please finish it so I can find motivation to make my own!

Dear selfish seamstress,
I love the print of your fabric, it’s not granny-like at all! Very modern, chique and special. You would steal the show as we say in Dutch with such a trenchcoat.
