It’s Valentine’s Day, and here’s the current state of men’s shirt 133 from the 10.2005 issue of BurdaMag for Dan. It’s a deep, rich shade of violet, which the photo is not indicating:

What the photo does indicate, however, is that it is so very not finished. And that I started it yesterday. Happy Valentine’s Day, in typical Selfish Seamstress fashion. I’m going on a little snowshoeing trip now. See you when I get back!

Love the guy who will wear a gorgeous royal purple like that! (Though you say the photo doesn’t represent it acurrately, I know the color you mean.) My husband wears great colors like that, too, and I’m so thankful for it!!!
Have a fun trip!

My hubby prefers prints to colors, but I don’t mind making him a new shirt now and then. He really appreciates them, as he can’t shop for RTW dress shirts (short and very broad shouldered).
Off-topic question: I muslined the 1/09 #112 skirt you just did, and I’m not crazy about it either. I don’t understand why Burda made the front waistband so rounded at the bottom, and straight it the back. The shape alone gives the illusion of roundness (although, in my case, it’s not an illusion). I reshaped the front pieces, and am going to try muslin #2. Do you think that’s the reason why you weren’t crazy about it?

First, the vest for Dan and now this amazing coloured shirt. Elaine, are you becoming an unselfish sewer?… maybe just a little?

That is a gorgeous shade of purple. I have a question. I wanted to email you, but I couldn’t find your email. I really love the swinging sweetheart dress at anthropologie: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=033000&navAction=jump&search=true&parentid=SEARCH_RESULTS
You mentioned once that you use the drafting book by Helen Joseph Armstrong, Patternmaking for Fashion Design, in drafting your patterns. I have never drafted from scratch before. Do you think her book would help me draft a pattern for this dress? The book is $80ish on amazon and the dress is $160ish. I am wondering if it is worth buying the book or if I should just fork out another 80ish and just get the dress from anthro. I really don’t want to spend that much on a dress, but I want the book to be useful to me for other projects. Is it well-written and easy to understand, particularly for someone like myself who has never drafted? There are also several editions, and from what I have read on amazon reviews, there seems to be problems with the 3rd edition. The latest edition is the 5th. I have been sewing for 10 years and can pretty much sew any pattern I get my hands on, but I have never drafted. I would love your thoughts on this. Thanks.

My theory is that she has slipped off the selfishness wagon and can’t bear to come and tell us that she is no longer a selfish seamstress anymore. She and her nemesis’ are probably off partying!

Hope you’re all right. I’m sure more than a few of us are worried you might have gotten stuck on a mountaintop without your sewing machine, no less!
